Teaching Staff

IRENE GENOVESE PICA is the founder and director of Symmetry Yoga. After teaching yoga in Fairfield County for six years, she opened the yoga center in 2001. She has been studing and practicing yoga for more than 25 years and celebrated her 10th year as a teacher in 2005. Irene is a certified yoga teacher in the Kripalu tradition and is registered with Yoga Alliance at the advanced 500 hour level.

Irene has also studied Iyengar, Ashtanga, Bikram, Kundalini, Vinyasa Flow, Viniyoga and Anusara with a host of renowned teachers including Rodney Yee, Shiva Rea, Richard Freeman, Gary Kraftsow, Kofi Busia, Aadil Palkhalvala, Ravi Singh and John Friend.

Her teaching style, which has been strongly influenced by an extensive dance background, blends an intuitive knowledge of the body with a unique sense of flow and connection between between postures.

A creative, compassionate and inspirational teacher, Irene encourages students to challenge themselves according to their level of ability so they obtain the best possible results from their yoga practice

KATHY JAMISON is a certified Viniyoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist and president of the American Viniyoga Institute Foundation. She is registered with Yoga Alliance at the advanced level and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She is also a licensed massage therapist, Reiki practitioner and Ayurvedic Health Educator. Her broad base of education and experience give her the unique ability to meet each student's needs with insight and sensitivity.
Guest Teachers:
MAXINE LOBEL is a certified Prana Yoga instructor and a member of Yoga Alliance. Maxine’s teaching has been influenced by Buddhist philosophy and her teachers, Donna Farhi and Erich Schiffman. Her teaching style is contemplative and spiritual, focusing on breath and mindfulness. Her teaching of children and adults reflects her training and experience as a psychotherapist.
MELANIE VAN VLIET received her certification in Interdisciplinary Yoga at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. She has also studied many diverse styles of yoga and meditation, which she integrates into her teaching. Her classes provide a safe place for students to explore themselves through Yoga and help bring about a sense of peace, balance and well-being
